For families

Everything you need to take the next step.

Starting ABA can feel like a lot — paperwork, insurance, terminology, decisions. We've built this page so you can move forward with clarity, not confusion.

Getting started

The intake process, demystified.

From your first phone call to your child's first session, here's how things unfold. Most families complete this process in 2–4 weeks.

Submit your inquiry.

Call us or send the contact form. You'll hear back from an intake coordinator within one business day — usually much sooner.

30-minute consultation.

A senior BCBA listens to your story, answers your questions, and helps you understand if ABA — and Behavior Recourse specifically — is the right fit. Free, no obligation.

Insurance verification.

Our team verifies your benefits and obtains authorization. You'll receive a clear written summary of your expected out-of-pocket costs before anything starts.

Assessment & treatment planning.

A BCBA conducts a comprehensive assessment (8–12 hours across sessions) and works with you to build a personalized program. You review every goal before therapy begins.

Sessions begin.

Your child meets their team. Therapy starts, with bi-weekly progress reviews built in from day one. The journey is underway.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear most.

If your child has an autism diagnosis (or is pursuing one) and you're seeing challenges in communication, social interaction, daily living skills, or behavior — ABA can help. Our free consultation is the easiest way to figure out if it's the right next step. We'll give you a straight answer, even if it means recommending a different service.
Most insurance plans require an ASD diagnosis to authorize ABA. If your child doesn't have one yet, we can refer you to trusted diagnostic providers in our network — many of whom have shorter waitlists than the major children's hospitals.
It depends on your child. Focused programs may be 10–15 hours per week; comprehensive programs (often recommended for younger children) may be 25–35. We recommend hours based on clinical need, not insurance maximums or business targets — and we re-evaluate every 6 months.
Absolutely — and we encourage it when it helps. Sibling-inclusive play, shared social skills practice, and family routines are some of the most effective generalization opportunities we have. Your BCBA will help structure it appropriately.
Fit matters. If a clinician isn't clicking with your family, you can request a change — no awkwardness, no judgment. We'd much rather make a change early than have you stay in a relationship that isn't working.
You're never charged for sessions you don't receive. We just ask for as much notice as you can give so we can offer that time to other families. Vacations, illness, life — we get it, and we don't penalize for it.
It varies. Focused programs may run 6–18 months. Comprehensive early-intervention programs typically last 2–4 years. We continually reduce intensity as goals are met, with the explicit goal of working ourselves out of a job.
Yes — that's the whole point. We don't have a "curriculum" we run every child through. Your child's plan reflects their interests, their strengths, their pace, and what your family actually wants out of therapy.
